Telecom Fijiana coach Iliesa Tanivula will be scouting for new players at the Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast 7s next week at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Competitions like the Coral Coast 7s are a platform where women can showcase their rugby talents.

“We will definitely be looking for new players  during the Coral Coast 7s,” Tanivula said.

“We don’t really have a wide player base in Fiji, but it’s something Fiji Rugby has got in the pipeline to have more competitions for women.”

Tanivula said while the current Fijiana players were doing a good job, there was still a need to recruit  players.

“The players have done a tremendous job in qualifying for the Rio Olympics,” he said.

“But there are some elements that you don’t see like injuries or loss of form and that is when we need back-up players.

“Preparation has been good, with the festive season now over we’ve received a positive feedback from the girls which is good.

“There is a shift in attitude on and off the field and they have had a bit of time off with their families. But it’s good to see them back to it and more dedicated than ever.

“I just hope we keep stepping up because we’ve some long term goals which is the Rio Olympics and also short term goals like the Women Sevens Series. We want to achieve the best possible result as we can.” Tanivula said.

The Telecom Fijiana team marches into camp today at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour for the Coral Coast 7s on January 14-16 at Lawaqa Park.
