Ba football striker Alvin Singh aims for the best during the Spain tour as the Vodafone Fijian U23 team leaves next Wednesday in their build up to the Rio Olympics in Brazil.

Singh looks forward to his first trip to Spain.

“So far training has been good especially since the boys have been together sbefore Christmas last year.

“Everyone is doing well and the vibe in camp is really good, the one thing I really like about this group of boys is that everyone is always supporting each other.

“You have the junior boys looking up to us senior players and that is always great to see but even more so, we are always learning from each other.

“I think being coached by Frank Farina has taught all of us something new whether it’s developing new skills or working on what we are lacking, it’s been a huge learning curve for all of us,” Singh said.

The 27-year-old from Ba said he never dreamt he would be this close to representing his country at an Olympic Games event which was why he plans to do his best in Spain.

“This Spain tour is not only a build up for the team for the Rio Olympics but also a way for the coach to see who can perform against high level teams.

“Our places are not confirmed in the team to go to Rio, so this is an opportunity not only for me but for the boys to prove their worth and show why we deserve to go to Rio.

“I intend to do my best in Spain because I know how important it is and plus it’s not every day you get to travel to Spain and play against these teams, so I am privileged to be a part of this team.

The team will leave for Spain on January 13. Fiji will play Levante United on January 19, Elche CF on January 20.

Both teams play in the Segunda Division in the Spanish Football League.

They will then play CF Cracks on January 21, Villarreal on January 26.January 27 the team takes on Valencia FC.
