Top marks to the Education Minister and his ministry

Kudos to Education Minister Mahendra Reddy. The Public Consultation currently underway by him and his ministry is yet another sign of the FijiFirst Government’s commitment to engage and consult with the people.

Members of the public and stakeholders are given ample time to voice their concerns, thoughts and hopes for our education system.

Former teachers and education specialists agree that such consultations will bring more insight and understanding to both sides.

Previously consultations were mostly held within the Ministry – between different departments, senior education officers and on divisional level.

The route the Education Minister has taken is no easy feat.  Over the past few days he has copped – and handled well – flak.  Throughout Mr Reddy has made it clear whether you agree or disagree, he is determined to improve our education sector.

These are just some of the discussions highlighted over the past few days in the West.

The packed halls demonstrate the value many place on education.  It shapes the future of our children and ultimately our society as a whole.

While it may be impossible to create the best education system in the world, at least we are all given an opportunity through the public consultations to thrash out ideas. And to continue the Bainimarama Government’s drive for education for all, and development of a skilled knowledge society.

Note: Today the public consultation starts at 9.30am at the Suva Grammar School Hall.
