We have amidst us different types of people who prefer doing different things in their leisure time.

Some love to spend time with family and loved ones, others may enjoy a leisurely walk with their pets.

We also have a quite a lot of people amidst us today, who enjoy their ride – not just driving around but modifying it to make it a centre-piece in any situation.

Edwin Nair had so much interest in wheels that he co-founded the High Rev Car Club in 2010, and currently has 12,000 Facebook members.

He founded it with two buddies Avikash and Zubed in Nadi as a non-profit organisation with the view to give back to the community.

“We plan to do some events this year and grow the club and create more awareness,” Mr Nair said.

Mr Nair is a Business Relationship Manager with Bred Bank Fiji Limited and has been in the banking industry since he left the University of the South Pacific 10 years ago.

Toyota Celica

He owns two cars at the moment. One is a Toyota Celica ST202 GT, running a 2.0L 3SGTE engine, with a CT20B Twin Entry Turbo charger set up.

Since he acquired the car, he has invested approximately $35,000 in upgrading it and still counting.

“It’s a five speed manual transmission, giving out approximately 260HP on factory setup. It’s currently running a low boost of 8psi,” Mr Nair said.

“This engine runs on factory top mount Water Cooled Turbo Intercooler, with an aftermarket heat exchanger and water pump remotely controlled.

“There are very few cars which have water cooled intercooler set ups around.

“I recently chose to respray the car and went along with Candy Orange colour which cost me a fortune but eventually the car turned out great.

“I always had in mind an outstanding colour scheme for the car hence my choice to have the Candy Orange paint, finished with PPG paint products with are the best in the market.”

Toyota Caldina

The other car is a Toyota Caldina GTT, also running a 3SGTE, but with a Generation 4, 2L motor.

This vehicle is 5-speed with All Wheel Drive transmission. The motor has been fully rebuilt for race purposes, with the internals being upgraded.

These include forged Pistons and Rods, Metal Head Gaskit, Monster 3 Core Front Mount Intercooler set up with a CT26 Turbo.

This car is running on a low boost of 10psi. It is built to run up to 18psi or more with the rebuilt internals.

Mr Nair fell in love with the car when he first saw it, as it had full veilside body kits, though with a standard 2.0L engine.

“It was then I decided this was the car I will build according to my specifications and taste,” he said.

“It has taken me quite a few years to get it to its current outlook and there’s still a lot that can be done.

“I chose to build it to basically a GT4 version (except the AWD transmission). It has everything else from a GT4, from the headlights, tail lights, Dash Cluster, Engine etc.”
