The Fijian U19 Cricket team got straight down to business since they arrived in Queensland, Australia last Wednesday.

The team started their training at Maroochydore Beach in Holiday Park followed by gym sessions at the Oceania Performance Centre (OPC) High Intensity Training (HIT) Room Performance and Fitness Centre.

Coach Joe Rika said the players have been responding well and adapting well in their new environment as they aimed to get the most out of their warm-up matches.

“Training has been going really well, the climate is the same back home which is hot and that is something the boys are used to,” Rika said.

“They know how important this build is for them and we can see how hard they are working and putting in that extra effort in every session we have.

“I’m quite happy with them and we are now just focussing on our warm-up games.

“It will be a good pre-tournament workout where we can gauge their performance and see what needs to be improved before we fly to Bangladesh.”

Fiji played their first warm-up game against Sunshine Coast Invitation yesterday and will play their second game on Thursday against the Sunshine Coast Scorchers.

The national team is using their warm-up matches in Australia as a build up to the International Cricket Council (ICC) U19 World Cup in Bangladesh which runs from January 22 to February 14.

This is the first time for Fiji to  compete at ICC World Cup.
