A former civil servant yesterday pleaded guilty to one count of soliciting an advantage.

Saiyad Aziz appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.

The summary of facts was read in court to which the accused indicated he understood and admitted.

It is alleged that while being employed as a prescribed officer attached to the Public Works Department as a machinist, Aziz allegedly solicited an advantage of $300 from one Nitinesh Naidu without general permission.

Defence lawyer, Mathew Young requested time from the court to file mitigation and sentencing submission before the case would be called again on the 15 of next month.
