Sevens legend Waisale Serevi believes Glasgow Warriors lock Leone Nakarawa should be part of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Serevi arrived in the country yesterday to be one of the guests at the 2016 Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast 7s which started at Lawaqa Park yesterday.

Serevi said Nakarawa’s ball hunting skills, ability to create gaps for others around him and his height and have the same playing skills like Semisi Naevo.

“It’s too early to say who to go to the Olympics, but from my point-of-view watching Leone Nakarawa, he should be the one.

“Nakarawa has the ability like Semisi Naevo when he was playing and if I name one player to be cemented going into the Olympics, it should be him,” Serevi said.

“Leone can win kick-offs, line outs, is a good ball carrier and a good defender, so he has all it takes. The other boys I think Ryan has been watching not only the local boys, but also how they are playing abroad.

“It should be interesting to find out who will be representing us in Rio.”

Meanwhile, Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan earlier stated he is currently waiting for overseas clubs to release players for the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Ryan confirmed that he spoke to players in their respective clubs, but said the decision on their participation depended on their clubs.

“There are a few overseas players who we are talking to the clubs about, but they hold all the cards. It’s down to the clubs to release them.

“Players like Leone Nakarawa need to be released by Glasgow Warriors and they have yet to release him for any 7s tournaments so don’t hold your breath on that one,” Ryan said.

Serevi is also here to assist with the Serevi Select Women’s side.

“It’s always good to be back home, I am here to be part of the tournament and the Serevi Select Women’s side.

“All those girls are here representing the Serevi Select.”
