Better late than never

John William, Nausori

Education Minister should be commended for the effort displayed resulting in the call for ‘Education consultation’ on reforms on our education system.

Even though this was supposed to be the first thing he did as he first stepped into his office.

With the recent exam results, Mr Reddy finally realised there was something wrong somewhere.

We hope sir that you would consider some of the recommendations that would surface from the nationwide consultation before making your decision on the betterment of our education system.

National interest

 Amenatave Yaconisau, Suva

Your article titled ‘Do not promote discord, says Raj’ (FS 12/1/16) needs some clarification.

I agree with him that the media organisations are free to print matters of national interest and that includes same sex marriage.

We must allow the press to report the truth. Our freedom as people really depends on the media reporting the truth no matter how unpopular.

I agree that there is tension between democracy and minor rights, but I am of the view that our elected representatives must protect us from the liberties of the minority.

I am not saying that the voice of the ‘tyrannical’ majority must prevail but in a democracy like ours minority must come second to the will of the majority, that is, the doctrine of the mandate.

As the late American President Thomas Jefferson said ‘freedom cannot be limited without being lost’

Let’s not be afraid to follow the truth wherever it may lead us as long as we have reasons to combat it.

Job description

 Sukha Singh, Labasa

Could we know how the backbenchers and members of the Opposition have earned their money and served the people so far?

Could a single backbenchers tell us what he or she has done so far?

Reaction

 Wise Muavono, Lautoka

For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction.

Plus a social media overreaction!

Key and lock or lock and lock

 Osea Sivo Naisau, Ba

“Thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind: it is abomination (someone or something that is detestable)…. Defile (treat something sacred or important without respect, to make something dirty) not ye yourselves in all these things for in all these the Nations are defiled which I cast out before you.

And the land is defiled therefore I do visit the iniquity (Injustice or wickedness) thereof upon it and the land itself vomiteth (reject the content of the stomach) out her inhabitants” (vs 22, 24225) .

In Leviticus 18, of which the above verses are part of, one’s sexuality’s dos and don’ts is clearly defined.

Whereas in Paul’s Epistle to the Romans it’s clearly stated “For this cause God gave them up unto vile (very wicked, disgusting) affections: for even their women did change the natural use into which is against nature (fundamental or essential qualities).

And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust (strong sexual desire) one toward another men with men working that which is unseemly and receiving in themselves that recompense (pay or reward) of their error which was meet” (Roman 1:26-27).

Experts on Human behaviour don’t really understand why a man or a woman is sexually attracted to the same sex.

They have differing views on it as any Encyclopedia will tell us. A tomboy (female) or a gay (male) are physically 100 per cent woman or man – period.

We all do know that a bolt and a nut connects and so is a key and a lock. Bolt and bolt or Lock and lock?

An interesting verse in the Bible is found in Isaiah 1:3, “The ox knoweth his owner and the ass his master’s crib but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider”.

A human is dumber than an animal? Serious isn’t it? One never sees a male dog running after a male one.

Basically the problem with the human spirit is sin (breaking of a religious or moral law).

All problems in life have a solution. The solution is Jesus Christ.

As Paul stated: “if any be in Christ he is a new creature old things are passed away behold all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17).
