Votua Village youth group members in Nadroga are grateful after the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation donated $2500 to start construction works for an internet café in the village.

“Our students in the village will now be able to complete their assignments and projects with ease thanks to Vodafone ATH,” Village youth group member Kini Viliame Ravonoloa said.

“Even though we are on the roadside we are still far away from town and students have to travel distance for their school assignment and projects.”

He said Votua Village would be the first in the Coral Coast to have an internet café.

“This is the first time we received grant from Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation and we here at the village with the help of corporates and hotels around are aspiring to set up a model enterprise and in turn share with other villages in the Coral Coast,” he said.

He said recently constructed projects by the village youth group included a building for gym and cafeteria along with a restaurant for passing motorists.

Group co-ordinator Lese Nagauna Venasio said that grants such as this made a big difference for youths in the village.

“We will put our heads together and make this a reality, it is a challenge for us youths but we know there is nothing impossible when one has drive he said.

The handover ceremony had officially taken place on New Year’s Day at the village.

Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation executive Ambalika Kutty said the core aim of providing grants to such communities was to help youths commit to a worthy cause.

“Our aim is to strengthen youth clubs in generating revenue and in turn address social issues pertaining to their villages,” she said.
