DPP Serves Disclosures

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has served disclosures to Defence lawyer Mark Anthony’s voir dire application in the case of the Ra sedition 44.

But Mr Anthony has sought further statements of the arresting officers in the case.

The court has also asked ODPP for a bail report on the 44 persons and the case will now be heard before a new judge, Justice Aruna Aluthge.

Meanwhile, only 43 of the 44 people charged in the Ra sedition related case appeared before Justice Aluthge at the High Court in Lautoka yesterday.

The court heard that all have been complying with their bail conditions except one accused, Vetaia Dale, who has been charged for another offence in Tavua.

All 44 are charged with one count of sedition contrary to section 67 (1) (a) and one count of urging political violence contrary to section 65 (1) (b) of the Crimes Decree 2009 and were represented by lawyer Mark Anthony.

The case has been adjourned to February 10.
