The Vodafone Fijian 7s extended squad went into camp yesterday to prepare for the Wellington and Sydney 7s.

The team will be training at the Uprising Beach Resort ground from today and will focus on their fitness.

Team manager Ropate Kauvesi said the players would be having a tough training session as they prepare for the Wellington Sevens.

“They will be doing a lot of fitness and game sessions; they will have a test to gauge their strengths and also to mix around with the new players and try to match their standards,” Kauvesi said.

“They will have to go through training sessions where they have to go without water so they need to pull up their socks if they want to join the team.

“The onus is on the players specially the new ones they need to show that they can move up to another level. The players are in a good condition except for Viliame Mata but we’re having our eyes on him.”

Semi Kunatani arrives today from France and will be given some time to rest before he joins the squad.

“Semi is a professional player and he will quickly adapt and we’ll see what he is capable from now on,” he said. Edited by Anasilini Ratuva
