Semi Kunatani arrived into the country and has joined the Vodafone Fijian 7s camp yesterday.

‘The Beast’ says he would not give up a place to Rio.

The Naqalimare, Navosa native who scored 37 tries in the HSBC World Series last season will now focus on losing extra bulk which he gained in France.

“I thank the fans for all the support and you will be able to see a bigger fitter and stronger Kunatani if the selectors pick me for any of the tournaments,” said Kunatani who has added six kilogrammes to tip the scales at 103 kg.

The Toulouse backline utility said adapting to 15s has been easy however the structured style of playing in the Top 14 is different to the Fijian style of playing.

“The game style is very different from ours. I am trying to adapt. It was not easy for me at first.

“I don’t see any problem going back to stick to the 7s code and my goal earlier set is the Rio Olympics which is the Fiji-an dream this year,” Kunatani said.

“I know that the competition is there but I have to be myself and confident to make it in the team.”

When SUN sports asked the Fijian 7s hit-man to describe his fitness level the lanky lad said: ‘Onz.

“Sevens is easier to play. I missed the first leg of the series but I have always shared in the squad’s emotions.”

Proud father, Aminiasi Kunabuli, said he always reminded ‘The Beast’ to put God and Fiji first.

He said he wants Kunatani to ensure he is ready to put his body on the line to win Fiji’s first ever Gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

Kunabuli always made sure that he has a DVD of all the matches his son participates in and often plays it over again.
