Vodafone Fijian 7s player Mitieli Nacagilevu needs to improve his fitness level.

Team coach Ben Ryan made the comment during the team’s training at the Uprising Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour yesterday.

“I saw him play in the Nawaka 7s last year and I thought let’s try him out.

“We revisited his neck injuries and signed off two consultants to say that he’s okay to play international games again,” Ryan said.

“So he actually progressed really well in the off season while having the injury and that set him back a bit. So he’s just getting over that now.

“That’s probably another reason why the Police team only used him a little bit over the weekend because he just recovered,” Ryan said.

Having said this, Ryan said Nacagilevu need to step up on his fitness.

“I know he is a very good player but that doesn’t count. He needs to get fitter.

“He is confident and I know he’ll emerge more on the field and get his fitness up,” he said.

Seremaia Tuwai was rested during training yesterday after sustaining hamstring.

Ryan will announce the 14-member squad for the Wellington and Sydney 7s tomorrow.
