Be better service providers to your community, the Fiji Corrections Services director rehabilitation West Sakiusa Veiwili told the inmates who completed Phase One of a rehab programme.

Mr Veiwili made this comment to the 26 inmates during their passing-out parade in Natabua, Lautoka yesterday.

“I thank you all for your commitment and dedication. You should be proud of yourselves of completing Phase One of the rehab programme,” he said.

“This is something that will really help us, especially our community and Fiji as a whole.”

Mr Veiwili said basic discipline was pivotal to all inmates at the rehabilitation centre.

“This rehab programme will make you a better person. It will make you become a better citizen of Fiji and will help develop you to becoming a better person than you were before,” he said.

“I hope that you have gained enough from what you have experienced. The things that you have learned from this rehab programme, you should practice in your community,” he said.

Veiwili reminds parents to take responsibility for their children’s actions

Mr Veiwili also reminded the parents who were present at the event to take full responsibility of what their children did.

“Parents, our kids need to change. They are our future leaders and should be moulded and taught. I need your support in this rehab programme,” he said.

Inmate Qio grateful

Meanwhile, an inmate Filipe Qio, 30, of Vatulele said he was grateful with the rehab programme.

“This is my second month and I am glad that we have a programme as such to remind us the roles that we should play in our society,” he said.

“Completing this Phase One of rehab is a boost to my other colleagues as well. When we finish from here we will make it a point that we do not repeat the same mistake.” Edited by Jonathan Bryce
