Free Rubbish Bins For Labasa, Savusavu

Residents in Labasa and Savusavu will receive free rubbish bins if they pay their town rates on time or have made arrangements with their councils.
Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transportation, Parveen Kumar handed over 1828 rubbish bins to special administrator for Labasa and Savusavu Vijay Chand in Suva yesterday.
Mr Kumar said 1468 bins will be distributed to Labasa residents while 350 to Savusavu residents.
“The cost of these rubbish bins is about $38,000.
“I am certain that the bins will be put to very good use to keep of Labasa and Savusavu towns clean,” he said.
Mr Kumar said the initiative came in to his mind while he was on the Northern Division tour with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his team.
He said he noticed rubbish along the road sides in Labasa and Savusavu.
Labasa and Savusavu special administrator Mr Chand expressed his gratitude to the ministry for their support towards the two towns.
“The council is very grateful to the minister for donating these rubbish bins to Labasa and Savusavu towns as the council fights very hard in keeping the two towns clean,” he said.
Mr Chand said the councils would ensure that residents of Labasa and Savusavu made good use of these rubbish bins and kept their surroundings clean.
