Still open for enrolment, says manager Qaranivalu

Davuilevu Housing near Naulu, Nasinu, now has its own secondary school.

It is called the Davuilevu Methodist Secondary School. It has a roll of 21 students plus nine teachers, but enrolment continues.

School manager and a former headteacher, Joji Qaranivalu said:  “There are still places to be filled after the school opened this year with the support of the Ministry of Education,” Mr Qaranivalu said.

“They are the pioneers of the school.”

Mr Qaranivalu said students from all races were welcomed to enrol.

One of the students, Salayawa Yabaki, comes from Susui Village in Vanuabalavu, Lau.

“I attended primary school at Naitauba in Vanuabalavu because my parents are working there,” she said.

She chose Davuilevu Methodist Secondary School because she lived with an aunty at Tuilovoni Road, Davuilevu Housing.

She said she would study hard to become a nurse.

Principal Saula Turagarai said his main task was to enrol more students.

The school would be officially opened by the Minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy, next week.

It is situated at the Davuilevu Methodist Primary School and the 21 students are using a primary classroom.

Construction for the secondary school would start next year.
