The Roko Tui Ba, Jese Volau says he is looking forward to the challenges in identifying key assistance areas in the Ba province this year.

“I think the most challenging aspect I have faced is that the province of Ba may be the largest I have served,” he said.

Mr Volau, who officially started as the new Roko Tui Ba late last year, served as the Roko Tui Serua  from 2013 until last year.

“This is considering the population and development that’s in progress that’s in comparison to Serua province where I also served as the Roko Tui from 2013-2015. I am happy to be here in the Western Division as long as the Government needs me to.”

Mr Volau said Serua only had four tikina (districts), however he is now tasked with overseeing a total of 21 tikina (district), and 107 villages within the Ba province.

“My plan for 2016 is to work and co-ordinate with the Government departments.”

He said assessing and funding of projects was usually done by the provincial administrators and the implementation was done by Government departments.

“The provincial office only facilitates Government developments; we don’t implement, it’s only the Government departments that implement,” he said.

“We will monitor the projects efficiently  to make sure they are up to par and I will work with the HOD’s (heads of departments) to get information that might be queried by the Prime Minister in terms of development projects timelines.”
