Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan commended the efforts displayed by the extended squad during training as they prepare for the Wellington 7s this weekend.

Ryan said the selection door was always open.

“Players like Filipo Daugunu, Masivesi Dakuwaqa, Josua Vici were outstanding all week, so I urge them to stay connected,” Ryan said.

“It’s all about improvement. Get your head down and you will get your rewards. I’m glad we had some depth in camp. They have worked hard and I’m looking forward to some strong performances.”

He said Amenoni Nasilasila was recalled after missing out in the first round of the World Sevens Series in Dubai and Cape Town due to injury. His selection into the team has relegated Kitione Taliga.

“Nasilasila’s fitness level is high, smashing the sand dunes last Friday,” Ryan said.

“He is an option at halfback or winger. His selection has left out Kiti who is also a very good player and this gives opportunity for Kiti to fight back. I can easily pick 17 or 18 players for the tournament next weekend.

“Semi has got over jet leg brilliantly, he’s is a professional player. As the week progresses, we will see how he settles down and whether to put him in as a rover or winger as well,” Ryan said.

Forwards
Ryan believes he’s got the best forwards pack.

“Isake Katonibau has the ability where we can flick him over to rover or prop. Veremalua is the same, he can play in the forwards, an expert in the air.

“Our magician Pio Tuwai is a playmaker in the forwards. He’s got size and power to frighten every team. Nemani Nagusa he is a big hard ball carrier. He keeps running all day, his fitness level is high.

“Apisai Domolailai have been unbelievable in training as he was trying to knock over some boys during training,” he said.
