Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will be meeting with the team from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) today before he starts his tour of the Western Division.

The meeting is scheduled from 9am to 10am.

Mr Bainimarama said: “This will be a normal meeting between the ILO team and me as Prime Minister of the nation.”

The PM said he was looking forward to the meeting.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau said the ILO team arrived yesterday at Nadi

International Airport and flew straight to Nausori International Airport.

In a press conference on Saturday the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said: “We look forward to this mission. In fact we welcome the mission because our biggest agenda is to make sure that we have economic growth in Fiji; make sure we reduce the poverty level; make sure we create and sustain jobs, provide free textbooks and free education; that is the objective; we are not here to have a continuous warfare.”

He added – “Maybe for some unionists it is their bread and butter.”

Mr Koroilavesau said this was a fact-finding team as it wanted to hear why the tripartite parties – Fiji Trades Union Congress, the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation and Government had been unable to submit a joint-report on labour law reforms.

Mr Koroilavesau said the ILO team was expected to finalise their report on the situation in Fiji before the governing body next sits in March.
