There have been talks about a thorough review of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority’s human resources.

Attorney-General and Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, highlighted this yesterday confirming having spoken to FRCA chairman, Ajith Kodagoda.

The review would be to ensure people are paid according to their critical roles in the authority, especially those in customs and border control.

“We want to be able to pay people who are at the border level who are playing a very critical roles a lot more than what they are getting paid now,” he said.

“It is very critical and we have to recognise that.”

But a higher pay can only come when people are responsible and have the level of integrity to perform their job.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said: “We cannot do that with the level of integrity and the level of service that is being currently delivered remains.

“We need to step up a notch and then we will be able to do those things.”
