Fix Rural Roads

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama last night called on the Fiji Roads Authority to put its acts together and deliver.
Mr Bainimarama made the call at a meeting of civil servants at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Delta Company camp in Namaka, Nadi.
He said: “FRA must make public a list of all roads – rural and urban, its conditions, what they have done about it and/or what they will do about it and by when.”
Mr Bainimarama said he had been inundated with requests for road upgrades in rural areas.
“FRA needs to strengthen slipways in rural areas and place culverts where they need to be to allow for students to reach school and at the same time allow Fijians to access services and FRA must stop concentrating on urban roads only,” he said.
“Government spends a lot of resources in upgrading our roads and all Fijians have the right to know about their road conditions.”
Mr Bainimarama said he continued to receive complaints from rural areas where nothing or very poor work had been done while sealed roads continue to be sealed and resealed.
Government over the past three years had on average over $400 million on roads and Mr Bainimarama said FRA must get its acts right and deliver.
