Seasoned journalist-veteran-turned politician, Matai Akauola, is confident and ready to make his maiden speech in the first Parliament session for 2016 on February 8.

Mr Akauola and Mohammed Dean will be sworn in on this day.

Both MPs are members of the FijiFirst party. They replaced MPs Dr Neil Sharma and Sanjit Patel who both resigned last year.

“It’s going to be a new experience and a new challenge for me; especially the training that we had in Parliament,” Mr Akauola said.

“I am ready for Parliament,” he said.

The two new MPs had a one-hour briefing by the Parliamentary Development specialist Dyfan Jones on Tuesday.

“The briefing was to make us understand the procedures on how things work.

“We were later taken to Parliament by the secretary-general Viniana Namosimalua where her team did a run through on what normally happens in Parliament.”
