A lightning strike in Nakorosule in the interior of Viti Levu caused a power disruption to the FEA power system in Viti Levu at 3:52pm this afternoon.
A statement from the Authority said: “This lightning strike tripped/de-energized our 132,000 volts transmission line that evacuates power supply from Wailoa to Cunnigham in Suva, causing a Viti Levu blackout.
“Whilst a team was trying to identify the cause of the outage, our other teams were quick in restoring power using the backup diesel generators around Viti Levu. We were able to restore about 80% of power supply to the affected areas within an hour and half.”
