Police Dismiss Alleged Opposition ‘Death Threat’ Complaint

Police have dismissed a complaint of an alleged death threat made on social media against the Opposition and its leader Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Acting Commissioner of Police Brigadier- General Sitiveni Qiliho has confirmed this after their investigations.

Ro Teimumu had lodged the complaint to Police last December.

The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had conducted the investigations.

“We have investigated with our cybercrime unit as well and they have come to the conclusion that the profile page of the person that’s alleged to have posted onto his Facebook page was of somebody else,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said.

“It was copied by someone else and was posted from another country rather than Fiji.

“There is no such threat made by the person who was alleged to have made it.”

He said these types of threats were nothing new.

“That happens on social media.Various threats were made against the Prime Minister on social media which still continue today against other prominent people in Government.

“We don’t seriously take some of these things that are posted on social media but we do look into it.

“It’s really nothing to worry about but the Police are always ready should anything happen or people get worried. We will look into these issues for them,” he said. Edited by Maraia Vula
