One of the 12 people who were victims of alleged rape incidences in January was under the age of 18 and between the ages of three and 10, statistics from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has revealed.

The data relates to the number of formal indictments (information) filed in the High Courts by the ODPP last month.

Seven people were charged with 12 rape offences in January and there were seven victims of the 12 alleged rape incidents. One case was discontinued before the courts after discontinuances (Nolle Prosequi) were filed for two alleged rape matters.

According to the statistics, there was one serious alleged sexual offence that involved a couple in a domestic relationship, one serious alleged sexual offence that involved a 72-year-old accused and an eight-year-old girl and there was one serious alleged sexual offence that involved an 11-year-old accused.
