Vodafone Fijian 7s rep Viliame Mata will join the 12 member team for Sydney 7s this weekend.

Coach Ben Ryan yesterday confirmed Mata would be one of the  changes in his 12-men team that participated in the Wellington 7s last weekend.

“Mata will come in for someone,” Ryan said.

Winger Sevuloni Mocenacagi is suffering from an ankle injury and Ryan confirmed that he had been given time until  tomorrow to recover.

“Will wait till Thursday as Sevu may still be fit.”

The side arrived in Sydney on Monday  and attended their first training session at St Joseph’s College grounds yesterday.

Big Fijian Support Expected

The Vodafone Fijian 7s team is expecting plenty of Fijian support in Sydney this weekend.

The Australian leg has been moved from Gold Coast to the New South Wales capital, with tickets sold out for the two-day event at Allianz Stadium.

Fiji have won a record five titles in Australia, including three in the past four years, and Ryan told Radio New Zealand they had to prove themselves.

“It’s going to be bigger than probably anywhere else we go to. In Vegas last year was pretty sensational and in Hong Kong, we always have a huge following, but I reckon we’ll have 10-15 thousand Fijians in that stadium.

“It’s going to be almost half-full with Fijian flags being waved and that’s going to help us in week two [of back to back tournaments] where sometimes the legs are flagging.

“We’ve got a lot to prove there and we haven’t got any serious injuries and we will have competition in the squad [this] week. We will do what we can to lift the trophy at the weekend,” he said.
