A man charged with one count of giving false information to a public servant pleaded guilty to the charge yesterday.

Ben Padarath appeared before Shageeth Somaratne at the Suva Magistrates Court.

The charges were read out in court to which the accused understood and pleaded guilty to.

It is alleged that on January 23, 2011, Padarath gave false information via text messages to the Director of Immigration, Nemani Vuniwaqa, intending to cause the Director of Immigration to put the name of Paul Freeman on the Fijian Immigration watch list.

Prosecution submitted a copy of the summary of facts to the court and also provided a copy to defence. It was also read out in court.

Magistrate Somaratne has also given defence a week to file their mitigation and also call a character witness.

The matter has been adjourned to next Tuesday. Bail has been extended for the accused. Aqela Susu
