Former national XV rep and Vodafone Fijian 7s manager, Paula Biu urges the public to be patient and keep supporting the Vodafone Fijian 7s team.

This was after the team finished in third place in Wellington last weekend beating England 24-12.

“There has been a lot criticism in the social media. I just want say for everyone to be patient and let’s keep supporting Ben and the team.

“ It’s still a long way within the series and to the Rio Olympics. New Zealand was just the third tournament in the series and we have seven more left,” Biu said.

Biu said: “Our short term goal is to win the series and long term goal to win in the Rio Olympics. Yes, we might have our own opinion, but let Ben handle the team and let’s support him.”

Naiteqe calls for patience

Former national 7s selector and former Naitasiri rugby coach, Sailosi Naiteqe (Senior) echoed the sentiments.

He said players needed to believe in themselves.

“The players are fit, but during the semifinal against South Africa, they just couldn’t keep up.

“Players should believe in themselves,” Naiteqe said.

The Samurai Barracudas head coach believes the players were mentally disturbed, but hoped that they would recover and produce better results this weekend.

“The players’ performance changed after the first round of series. We can see that they did not have the right mentality last weekend,” Naiteqe said.

“No coach wants their team to lose. We all want to win. When players are being sworn at after the match, it hurts the coach because we see the players as our own children. I am calling out to members of the public to support the team.”
