The Fijian U19 cricket side plays Afghanistan in the plate quarterfinal tomorrow at 3pm in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.

Cricket Fiji acting chief executive officer Setoki Galuvakadua said they were satisfied with the player’s results and believed on the need to develop the sport from school level.

“Fiji lost all its pool games and now has move to the bottom eight. The top eight will proceed into the main cup competition and also automatically qualify into the next World Cup tournament.

“Now we have established our weakness and we need to develop our basic cricketers starting at school level competition,” Galuvakadua said.

“The boys had given their best, I am satisfied with their performance but give us few more years then they will see a different Fijian team with huge improvement,” he added.

The Cricket fraternity has also laid down plans to lift the sport to another standard.

“We need to have a proper and dedicated cricket oval and we are in discussion with the Government to give us land to construct our cricket oval.

“We are also looking at our development officers to visit islands in Lau to conduct coaching and other related issues. They will later visit other districts like Rakiraki, Nadi, Lautoka and Sigatoka.”
