Firm Seeks Legal Advice

Accounting firm APNR Partners is seeking legal advice on the controversies over its role in the audited accounts of the suspended National Federation Party.

The audited accounts were signed by a chartered accountant who did not hold a certificate of public practice in Fiji.

It breached the Political Parties decree and led to the suspension for 30 days.

APNR Partners manager Riaz Khan spoke to the Fiji Sun yesterday and confirmed that his accountant Elvin Atish Lal did not hold a certificate of public practice in Fiji.

Mr Lal is also a partner of the firm, together with one Ziya Khan.

Mr Khan said: “We have previously done one or two audits before, and why did the FIA (Fiji Institute of Accountants) not at that time have any issues?”

FIA president Nouzab Fareed said they acted when complaints were lodged and in the case of APNR Partners, they were referred to FIA’s investigation section.

Mr Khan confirmed that the firm also undertakes other accounts related work for companies such as filing tax returns etc.
