Former national rep Sitiveni Waqa has called on rugby fans to support the Vodafone Fijian 7s team at the Sydney 7s tournament this weekend.

The Nubunakita, Ra native, who is playing for the Panthers Blowpipes Rugby Club in Malaysia, said despite the loss against South Africa in the Cup semifinal last weekend in Wellington, we must always show our support for the boys.

“I know how it feels when we lose a game especially when we are beaten comfortably,” Waqa said.

“When the team loses it will not just affect the players but the whole country. But what the people should know is we’re all trying our best to win and losing is all part of the package.”

Waqa was a member of the Vodafone Fiji 7s squad to the 2014-2015 Wellington and Las Vegas 7s leg of the World Sevens Series.

“We have a good team and they need to concentrate on their speed and strength but apart from that they are a good bunch of boys who can do the job.

“Coach Ben Ryan has done a lot to the team and he deserves more credit and appreciation for what he has done.  He has turned the Fiji team in to a world class team feared by all the other teams and we as Fijians must be proud of that achievement,” he said
