Hello fellow car lovers. Welcome to the first column of this year.

After a very successful 2015 where we held nine events, we are ready to begin our 2016 season.

We had promises members eight events in 2016 but we held one extra thanks to the big support we received.

We are very happy with the way executives performed last year.

This year, we are going to make it bigger and better.

We are planning to start the year with an awards night which will be on February 20. We will confirm the venue later on. This will be a first event this year and our second awards night.

Racing and car shows

Moving on from the awards, we will be having the first quarter mile drag race of this year in the first week of March.

We have noticed there are a lot of racing cars that is currently being built.

I urge you to quickly finish off with what you are doing and get ready for the race in the first week of March.

As last year, we are hoping to hold at least eight events. If time allows us, we will have more. But as it stands, we will have eight.

For car show, we will have one in Suva. At the same time, we promised the Western people we will come bigger and so we will come to the Western side sometime towards the end of the year.

Also we are working very hard with the authorities to secure road for us to use to drag race in the Western side.

There have not been any drag races in the West for past 10 to 15 years so if we get approval from the authorities, we will have a quarter mile drag race in the West sometime this year.

That is our main highlights for this year.

Also for off-road track, we are still in negotiation with the landowners for land.

We are hoping to get approval within two weeks time so that we can start developing the area and make an off-road race track.

Our Slogan

The Fiji Car Club will this year be actively promoting road safety amongst members.

Our slogan this year which we are working on is: “Public road is no place to race.”

If you love speed, come and try it out on the tracks. Until we meet again next week, have a safe driving week ahead.
