NFA Attends House Fire In Valelevu

The National Fire Authority (NFA) attended to a house fire at Railagi Road in Delaitokatoka, Valelevu yesterday.
At 1354hrs, Valelevu Fire Station received the fire emergency call and immediately responded to the fire call. Upon arrival at 1357hrs, fire team saw the house was fully engulfed in flames.
Fire team used deliveries of water from the fire trucks to extinguish the fire and stopped it from spreading to the nearby homes.
The lean-to corrugated iron and timber-structured house was destroyed by the fire. No one was at home when it happened.
NFA investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Chief Fire officer Qionilau Moceitai advises home owners to be mindful of fire safety.
“It is very important for home owners to be mindful of fire safety as main causes of home fires are mainly from the electrical faults, unattended cooking and fire ignition sources such as candles, prayer diyas, mosquito coils, etc.
“It is very important for home owners to pay more attention to electrical appliances, handling of fire ignition sources and during cooking to stop a fire from happening,” Mr Moceitai added.
