Defence Key: Kolinisau

The Vodafone Fijian 7s team defeated Samoa 31-0 in their opening match of the Sydney 7s yesterday.

Captain Osea Kolinisau believes defence was one area they want to rectify this week.

“Defence is one area we want to improve on after our performance last week in Wellington and we want to show in our first game that we were up to it.

“Samoa is not an easy team and whenever we meet, it’s always going to be physical so we have to man up in our defence,” Kolinisau said.

Head Coach Ben Ryan said they defended well.

“Our last game with Samoa was in Gold Coast 7s Cup final last year.

“Samoa is an excellent side, we just managed to defend well, we kept the ball and got points early,” Ryan said.

The Fijians got off to a good start scoring five tries with scrumhalf Seremaia Tuwai scoring a double while Kolinisau, Savenaca Rawaca and Apisai Domolailai scoring a try each.

Fiji led 19-0 at halftime.
