PM vs Kepa

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and Opposition leader Ro Teimumu Kepa have exchanged strong words over the suspension of the National Federation Party.
Mr Bainimarama said: “I look forward to her big talk and supporting the suspended NFP by boycotting Parliament.”
Ro Teimumu in a video posted on social media had urged the people to join with the Opposition parties to push back against what she called the anti-democratic actions of the government.
“Remember that the power of the people is supreme. However, that power must be used effectively through peaceful, legitimate means to right the wrongs that are being committed against us,” she said.
But Mr Bainimarama said Fijians used their democratic right in the last general elections to vote for the FijiFirst party to form the Government.
“That is democracy and the people agreed and they voted for FijiFirst in the ballot boxes,” he said.
Ro Teimumu had also criticised the shipment of Russian arms to Fiji to help equip our Fijian peacekeepers.
Mr Bainimarama said she talked about Russian arms and the money used for the purchase. He said: “What’s the Russian arms have to do with the price of the fish. Not that she understands any of it!”.
Ro Teimumu described the NFP suspension as severe and savage. Her support of the suspended NFP has raised eyebrows in the SODELPA camp which has been silent.
It is understood that SODELPA would prefer the suspended NFP fight its own battle because it is an internal matter.
