The Fijian Government and the Solomon Islands are set to further strengthen relations in the field of sports.

This follows a courtesy visit yesterday by the Solomon Islands Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Sports Manasseh Maelanga to the Fijian Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou.

During their meeting, Mr Maelanga expressed his interests in using the Fiji Volunteer Scheme to get Fijian sporting expertise across to the Solomon Islands to boost their sporting capabilities.

He said this was also targeted at bolstering their efforts in the bid to host the 2023 Pacific Games as the Solomon Islands has yet to host the regional sporting competition.

Mr Tuitubou thanked the Solomon Deputy Prime Minister for the visit and ensured his support for the motion to assist the Solomon Islands through the use of the Fiji Volunteer Scheme.

Mr Maelanga is leading a delegation to Fiji to attend and witness the 2016 Oceania Futsal Championships.
