We all have our beliefs, but the public need to seek the doctor’s advice first, says assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Veena Bhatnagar.

She made the comment following the death of Mere Ruku, 47, of Banaras, Lautoka, during an alleged spiritual healing process last Monday.

“We do not stop complementary practices like meditation and spiritual healing because we all have our own beliefs and faith in our God, but people need to seek the doctor’s advice first,” Mrs Bhatnagar said.

“For some cases, witchcraft is being practiced to heal the sick, but I must say the Ministry of Health does not promote witchcraft.”

Mrs Bhatnagar, meanwhile, urges members of the public to make use of Government’s free medicine scheme.

“The Government has done so much in terms of providing better health facilities and all we need to do is do the right thing and that is to seek doctors’ help first before other things,” she said.
