The Vodafone Fijian 7s team stormed into the Cup semifinals after beating Kenya 28-12 in the quarterfinal.

Team captain Osea Kolinisau said qualifying for the semifinal was tough.

“The Kenyans are good side as they have been making the quarterfinals since the first leg in Dubai,”Kolinisau said.

Fiji got off to a good start with Isake Katonibau scoring in the first minute making it easy for Vatemo Ravouvou for the conversion, 7-0.

Two minutes later Katonibau broke through Kenya’s defence allowing Savenaca Rawaca to score two more tries.

Ravouvou’s successful conversion brought the score to 21-0.

Kenya failing to complete passes cost them precious possession. Biko Adema picked himself a yellow card just before halftime.

Kenya settled down in the second half applying pressure on Fiji which paid off as Oscar Ayodi scored their first try, Adema closed the gap with two points, 21-19.

Coming on from the bench, Viliame Mata made his impact scoring the fourth try for Fiji extending their lead 28-7.

Ayodi making his second try in the 13th minute was not enough to book their spot in the semifinals, ending the game 28-12.
