The Year of the Fire Monkey will be celebrated in style in Nadi.

The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry is working closely with the Nadi Chinese community to mark the New Year.

Chamber president Dr Ram Raju said the celebration would coincide with a mini business forum at Tanoa Skylodge.

“NCCI is planning a grand celebration again this year on 20th February to mark Chinese New Year and we also plan to have a mini business forum from 2pm to 5pm,” he said.

Dr Raju said the chief guest for the event would be the deputy Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Yang Xunlei, who is also the Economic and Commercial Counsellor. He said several Fijian cabinet ministers would be invited as well.

The programme will also honour Chinese pioneers with certificates of recognition.

“We did miss a few last year and more have been identified,” said Dr Raju.

A Nadi-based Fijian of Chinese ancestry Gemma Kwong, will be the event coordinator.

According to the NCCI they have also set out several objectives namely fundraising drive for Suva based baby Craig Sanday, a blind boy that needs overseas medical treatment.

He added the event will be used to launch the Nadi Tourism Magazine/Flyer and also the launching of Holi festival to be celebrated on March 19.
