Bail Extended For Marawa, Shekeb

Police Prosecution yesterday made an application to transfer the case of Abdul Shekeb and Josefa Marawa to the High Court.
Shekeb is the director of Ariana Used Cars and Spare Parts and Marawa is the former Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority acting national manager border and customs.
The two, who are each charged with two counts of bribery, appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
FICAC lawyer, Lilian Mausio made an application for the transfer of the matter to the High Court because it is an indictable offence.
She also informed the court that they were not objecting to the release of the vehicle, however asked for a cash bond of $25,000.
On count one, it is alleged that between April 1 and April 30, last year in Suva, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse in the course of having dealings with FRCA, Shekeb offered a gift or favour in the form of a Toyota Harrier vehicle with the registration number HV915 to Marawa, a public servant employed as acting national manager Border and Customs at FRCA.
Both defence lawyers yesterday confirmed receiving full phase disclosures. They however, requested for the charge sheet because they had not been served with it.
Shekeb’s lawyer, Ravi Singh said he would await further instructions on whether to have the vehicle released or not.
The matter has been adjourned to February 26. Bail has been extended for both accused.
