$20,000 Bonus For 7s Players

The Vodafone Fijian 7s side collected a $20,000 bonus for finishing in third place at the Wellington and Sydney 7s.

Vodafone Fiji chief executive officer Pradeep Lal says: “The IRB 7’s competition is getting tougher with each leg.  The top teams are now roping in new players to find that formidable combination for Rio Olympics. For our 7s boys, it is a tough road ahead as defending champions.

“We had put in place a bonus structure to continue to incentivise the team for finishing in the top four if they did not make it to the finals,” Lal said.

Despite not winning either of the two tournaments, the team returned at the top of the World Series leader board.

“We welcome back our 7s gladiators and thank them for giving their best in the two tournaments.  Whilst we rue the missed opportunity, we are nonetheless happy with the current top placing on the World Series leader board.

“As sponsors, we are proud and would like to reward the team with a $20,000 cash bonus and motivate them to do their best in the remaining legs.  We are confident that the team will recuperate and rebuild and be ready to defend their title in Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s.”
