Yat Sen Primary School’s deputy headgirl Lydia Kondaiya felt proud and happy to be given a leadership role after the school’s prefects induction ceremony yesterday.

Lydia is also the reigning champion for the oratory competition since 2014, In Year Six Lydia was given a chance to take part in an oratory contest.

She was not sure about it at first but her mother and father encouraged and helped her with her speech for Library Day.

She obtained her first victory in the Year Six oratory competition during Library Day.

Since then she has been obtaining trophies for the overall oratory competitions each year.

“I have been winning the overall competition since Class Six,” she said.

Lydia is one of the top three students in her class and she has always had high ranks academically. She is also one of the top 10 students in maths.

She comes from a family with strong Christian values; she was named by their church pastor and was taught the important values and teachings which her father has always reminded her to use in her everyday life.

She also feels fortunate coming from a mixed family as her father is Indo-Fijian and her mother is a iTaukei; a blend of both cultures.
