Qiliho’s Term Extended: PM
Acting Commissioner of Police, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho.

Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho will continue as the acting Police Commissioner for another three months.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama disclosed this outside Parliament in Suva yesterday.

“I have given my endorsement for the acting Commissioner to stay on for another three months,” he said.

Brigadier-General Qiliho’s first acting term will expire tomorrow. There has been speculation about his future because of differences with the Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde over Police officers charged in the Vilikesa Soko case.

Brigadier-General Qiliho has quickly provided decisive and active leadership of the Police Force. He has won public praise and growing support in the Force.

He has confirmed he applied for the Police Commissioner’s job.

During a press conference on Monday, Brigadier-General Qiliho said that he was waiting for a response from the Constitutional Offices Commission.

“I am waiting for guidance on this. Otherwise I will have to pack my bags and go back to camp,” he said.

He was serving as the Land Force Commander for the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) prior to his appointment.

He was appointed acting Commissioner last November after the then Police Commissioner, Bernadus Groenewald resigned. Edited by Maraia Vula
