Ratu Inoke Leads Team To Tongan Talks

Pacific leaders will meet in Tonga today to build on momentum from the successful COP21 Summit in Paris, late last year.

Representing Fiji at the Pacific Small Island States (PSIDS) ministerial meeting will be Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Ambassador Climate Change and Oceans Amena Yauvoli and Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Peter Thomson.

The ministerial meeting commences today followed by the PSIDS strategic planning meeting that ends on Friday.

Kiribati President Anote Tong, in his last few months in office, is expected to be lauded for his advocacy against climate change in the lead-up to COP21.

President Tong has worked closely with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on climate change advocacy and mitigation for Pacific island statesMinister Kubuabola is expected to affirm PSIDS as being firmly established within the UN, G77, AOSIS and the Asia-Pacific Group, as the logical choice of the Pacific island countries in international negotiations.
