A Fijian doctor has been given an opportunity to further her career as a pediatrician, thanks to the Greg Urwin Award.

Laila Seduadua, 40, is one of five Pacific islanders who were granted the award.

It provides a funding of A$25,000 to professionals to undertake a three to six months placement with a regional organisation or institute.

For 15 years Mrs Seduadua has been a pediatrician looking after children with cancer around hospitals in Fiji. She will be on placement with the Christchurch Hospital Oncology Department in New Zealand for six months.

“ I will bring back the knowledge and skills learned at Christchurch Hospital and apply it in our local hospitals,” she said.

The Greg Urwin Awards is a joint initiative of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) and the Australian government-funded Pacific Leadership Programme (PLP).
