Donna Chen, 18, of Xavier College, believed that her families support made her scored the highest mark in the 2015 Year 12 Certificate Examination.

Donna is originally from China but resides in Ba. She scored 390 out of 400 and broke the old record of 383 out of 400 that was set by her sister Chen Ji in 2011.

She also scored the highest in Biology with a mark of 99 out of 100 beating the old record 96 which was set in 1997 by Ragni Dayal.

“If it wasn’t for my family I wouldn’t have broken the record that was set by my sister,” she said.

“I am thankful that my family was always there for me and supported me in times of need.”

She said her journey to achieving the highest mark in school was not an easy one.

“It takes a lot of sacrifice to be able to achieve your dreams and the things you desire in life. Scoring the highest mark in my school was challenging,” she said.

Donna said she didn’t expect to achieve those marks and scoring highest in her school.

“It was a total surprise all together for me, I didn’t believe it myself until I saw it,” she said.

“My families and friends helped a lot and also my teachers were always there when I needed them and I thank them for that.

“I am looking at this year as a challenging year and I am hoping to achieve something similar to what I had achieved last year,” she said.

Chen is also the head girl of the school this year.

Principal Brother George Vazhayil acknowledged her achievements.

“Xavier College is really happy about her studious activities in the college as she is multi-talented and specific about her path for the future,” he said

“She has a well integrated personality and takes challenges that help her to develop a holistic personality.  The College is proud of her and congratulates her and wishes her a bright future.”
