The newly-inducted prefects of Xavier College were yesterday reminded that their role as leaders was important to the school.

Dr Maria Doton, the chief quest during the prefect induction, reminded the prefects while extending her congratulatory remarks yesterday.

She urged the prefects to always lead by example.

“Leadership should be that of love, giving help, and of service rather than commanding or bullying,” she said.

“It is to use our God given ability for the betterment of others.”

Ms Doton said the prefects must personify the school prayer, the St Francis’ Prayer ‘Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace’ and be channels of peace.

“Although difficulties and challenges will impede their success, you must strive for holiness, excellence and perfection,” she said.

Dr Doton was pleased to have been invited by the Xavier Family to be the chief guest and felt extremely honoured for the College’s efforts in recognising her leadership and contribution to the community.

Meanwhile, headboy Siddarth Raman said: “It may not be easy, but with the help of my colleagues, we will be able to make 2016 a successful year.

“I need the students to co-operate with me and the headgirl and for that we will be able to achieve greater things this year,” he said.
