There is a need to be an increase of budget allocation in the Fiji Higher Education Commission to support its plan in achieving its key output areas says social affairs standing committee chair, Viam Pillay.

While presenting the committee review report of the Fiji Higher Education Commission’s 2013 Annual Report, he said the committee had consulted the commission and identified major areas of concern that affected it.

“The review exercise that was undertaken by the committee on the Commission’s 2013 Annual Report covers the area of budget, administration, policies, organisation structure, functions and programmes in 2013.

“In conducting the review, the Committee identified that the Commission requires an increase in its budgetary allocation to support its plan in achieving its key output areas;

“The Commission also needs a review of its staff remuneration which was justified on the case of high turnover rate of Commission’s staff in 2013 and the past years,” Mr Pillay said.

The Fiji Higher Education Commission’s 2013 Annual Report was tabled in Parliament last year and was submitted to the Social Affairs Standing Committee to be scrutinised.
