Shop N Save Athletics Fiji will be conducting a local Grand Prix competition starting at Natabua High School, Lautoka on Saturday.

It will be known as the Athletics Fiji Shop n Save Grand Prix Series.

The last time Athletics Fiji conducted a local Grand Prix Event was in the late 80’s where former national sprinter Jone Delai was discovered.

This is part of Athletics Fiji’s strategic plan of taking competition to the other urban centres.

Round one of the Shop N Save Series will be held at Natabua High School in Lautoka on Saturday, round two at Xavier College in Ba on February 20 and the finals at the ANZ Stadium on February 27.

Prize-money will be at stake with the overall winners in each event receiving $200 for first  place, $150 for second place, $100 for third  place, $50 for fourth spot and $25 for fifth  place.

Athletes must take part in all three rounds of the Athletics Fiji Shop N Save Grand Prix Series to qualify for the prize money.

Competition will be in the Open grade category and points will be awarded according to the IAAF scoring tables based on the times for track events and distances for field events after the three rounds.

Events that will be contested are 100m, 400m, 800m 5000m, Long Jump, High Jump and Shot Put in both the Open Men and Women Categories.

Apart from the Grand Prix, there will also be races conducted for the lower grades.

National athletes who will be taking part include Banuve Tabakaucoro, Albert Miller Jnr, Francis Kirikirikula, Keasi Naidroka,Eugene Vollmer, Waisale Dausoko, Mustafa Fall,  Laisani Moceisawana, Elenoa Sailosi, Alaiwalu Raiyawa, Elenani Tinai, Alesi Finau, Heleina Young, Makereta Naulu and other athletes preparing for the annual Coca-Cola Games.
