Telecom Fijian coach Iliesa Tanivula said the 12 players who were selected for the Women Sevens Series in Sao Paulo, Brazil came after three weeks of intense training.

The squad departs today for the tournament next weekend where they will play Australia, Canada and Ireland.

“The training has been intense led by our trainer Mathew Dooley as we tried to get the girls fit and stronger.

“It has not been an easy job for me and women coaching director Chris Cracknell to get the best 12 to travel to Brazil.

“The selection was based on and off the performance on and off the field. The players who got the nod proved themselves.”

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor acknowledged Telecom Fiji Limited for their continuous support.

“As I look back when Fijiana started and where they are now, we can only thank the sponsors for their belief in the programme.

“I acknowledged the team management for looking after the girls, I know it’s a very difficult task for the coaches to name the best team and to those who have missed out I would like to encourage them to work hard.

“To the final 12, all Fijians will support you and always focus on the goal and to make use of this opportunity.”

He also reminded the girls to be careful of the Zika virus outbreak in Brazil.

“Please be careful and look after yourself,” O’Connor said. Edited by Osea Bola
